Susan and Dad at the Well

“Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

John 4:13-14

This dream included two very important elements to me. My Dad and scripture. I don’t recall a specific timeframe, other than we were in the throes of ramping up Southern Piedmont Materials and Southern Piedmont Kingdom Builders simultaneously and I felt the heaviness of worldly pressures.

In the dream, I was walking with a group of 4 or 5 people down a small flight of stone stairs into a cellar under a building. It was dimly lit, damp and cold. The walls were irregular, creating long shadows, the air smelled stale and mineral-like. Everything about this setting should have made me fearful, but I was not scared. In the center of the room was a rectangular brick structure about 3 ½ feet tall, and 6 feet long. In the middle was a circular hole, it was a well. My Dad (Gary) was standing beside this well and spoke. My Dad died almost 30 years ago, and in the many dreams he’s been in, he has never spoken. In a voice not his own, he said, “Those who trust in the Lord will never thirst.” When he finished speaking, I found that I was sitting on top of the well. Embarrassed, I slid off and onto the floor. I felt I needed to leave and get on my way. I was supposed to do something after I left this place.

I could not find a bible verse with exactly that wording. However, I believe John 4:14 has the implication of what I heard. “but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst”. These were Jesus’ words to the Samaritan woman at the well. The word trust stood out to me, I needed to trust the Lord. The embarrassment I felt was the insecurity of thinking I am not worthy of His love and forgiveness. I needed to get past that to fully accept His will for my life. The rest of the verse ends beautifully with a promise of eternity with Jesus, “Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
